A warm South African breeze lightens up the dark Finnish winter!
Dizu Plaatjies is a luminous singer and multi instrumentalist, who forges fascinating melodies and wild energy especially from his marimba. With an open mind he combines different traditions from his country with own songs and lyrics, resulting in sparkling and energetic neo-traditional music. With his Ibuyambo ensemble he combines singing, dancing and playing, combining different African instruments. Citizen rights is a issue close to his heart – something to remember this year, when we celebrate 100 years since the birth of South Africa’s great son Nelson Mandela, an important figure for Plaatjies also on personal level, since his wife belongs to the Mandela family.
During many decades Dizu Plaatjies has performed on the most prestigious stages of the world, like the Carnegie Hall in New York. He visited Finland in the end of the 1990s with the legendary group Amampondo, but the Ibuyambo ensemble now appears in Finland for the first time. This colorful cohort will certainly not leave you cold!
