Etnosoi! Ingrian afternoon
Armas & Sudenmorsiamet
The concert is a joint project between two ensembles specializing in Ingrian music, the Armas ensemble and the Sudenmorsiamet trio, and the students and teachers of folk music at the Sibelius Academy.
The program consists of old traditional songs as well as new compositions and lyrics.
The musical roots of the Armas ensemble reach back to shepherd melodies from over a hundred years ago. The core of the program consists of Ingrian songs, which the ensemble has arranged in a fresh and bold way for the 2020s.
The shepherds of the past had a diverse repertoire: dance tunes, memories from the front, soulful improvisations, funny songs and cattle calls related to communication with animals. The Armas band's concert ensemble also contains a variety of moods. Through lullabies, we move to village dances, forest echoes are followed by a pop riff and the shepherd's improvisational theme is spiced up with jazz chords.
The band's debut album "Metsästä kuuluu" was released in 2016.

"Gentle anarchy, freshness, riot, trash and peace" Amanda Kauranne Yle Radio 1 / Etnoilta
"Olli Kari, Samuli Karjalainen, Mimmi Laaksonen, Kirsi Ojala and Kirsi Vinkki are skilled, soulful musicians, with whom I like to go both to sit on the edge of the field and to dance. The wind solos, for example those played with the troubadour, and duets, are divinely beautiful and are rarely heard." Arja Kangasniemi/Kansanmusiikki
SUDENMORSIAMET is an Ingrian-Finnish folk song ensemble – a story about childhood friends whose family roots are in Ingria. The friends found each other again and set out to revive Ingrian folk songs, poetry and tradition. The ensemble acts as a bridge builder between the past and the present: through songs, they give voice to stories that were in danger of being forgotten.
Sudenmorsiamet’s music is characterized by sensitivity, intimacy, passion and a strong connection to their own roots. They combine old and new, tradition and their own tones – and invite the audience to join in remembering and listening together.
In addition to songs, Sudenmorsiamet also makes their own music, which is based on the stories of their families and childhood memories. They bring Ingria's folklore to the fore by organizing workshops that delve into the music, storytelling, and cultural heritage of the Ingrian Finns in a participatory and immersive way.

In addition to the bands, the concert will feature Anna-Kaisa Liedes, a vocal lecturer at the Department of Folk music at the Sibelius Academy, and folk music students.
