World and folk music group Söndörgő celebrates its 30th anniversary and returns to Finland after a 10-year break! Söndörgő’s music is a mix of the primitive power of traditional Balkans music, the virtuosic musicianship, the joy of playing together and irresistible energy. The band hails from Hungary and their roots are partly in the Southern Slavic minorities of the region – Serbian and Croatian – and in their almost lost musical traditions. The band aims to modernise their rich traditions in its own, charmingly unique way.
When Söndörgő was established in 1995, the musicians were still children and practically grew up with the band. Four of the five members belong to the same family of musicians, and their musical identity is built on the legendary heritage of the Vujics Ensemble, which their relatives played in.
Last year, Söndörgő published their new album, Gyezz, which includes prestigious jazz-saxophonist Chris Potter. The album has received wide praise, and it rose to the top spots of both the World Music Charts Europe chart and Songlines magazine’s Top Of The World chart. Gyezz is a milestone for the new musical beginning of the band, as its songs combine free improvisation in the compositions.
2025 is Söndörgő’s 30th anniversary. To celebrate, the band is publishing an anniversary album that brings together the most memorable moments of the last three decades and completely new songs. The concert is supported by Liszt Intézet Helsinki.
